Based in Newark, New Jersey, the Reverend Dr. Bill Allport has served as a chaplain for the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) since 2022. The International Seafarers’ Center is part of SCI, an institution that works alongside an international network of chaplaincies committed to caring for the world’s mariners and seafarers. His primary mission as an ISC chaplain is to coordinate ship visits with fellow chaplains, and check in on the well-being of seafarers at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The Rev. Dr. Bill Allport also has been trained to recognize and assist mariners facing distress, which may arise from unsafe working conditions, poor treatment and harassment from superiors, or long periods away from family and friends.
The Rev. Dr. Allport received his master of arts in divinity from the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA, and his doctorate from the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. In addition to his religious studies, he completed political science and Spanish degree programs as an undergraduate at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.
